‘Appy’ Dominicans on a winner

Opinion

It’s not every day you find yourself addicted to a phone app game where your achievements are motivated by climbing the ranks of leadership in the Catholic Church, but moments after recently downloading Catholic Bible Trivia, such a situation was my reality.

Catholic Bible Trivia is the sequel to the successful Catholic Trivia app developed by a group of Dominican priests, including Adelaide-based Blackfriars Priory School chaplain, Fr Matthew Boland OP.

Like its predecessor, Catholic Bible Trivia does a good job of making learning about the faith intriguing and interactive to newcomers, whilst allowing long-term Catholics to celebrate the Gospels in a modern, fresh way.

More succinct than Catholic Trivia, this app specifically focuses on biblical trivia, and presents multiple choice options to questions such as ‘What did David try on and take off before he went to meet Goliath in battle?’, across categories including prophets, locations, characters and general knowledge. Sound-tracked by traditional hymns and decorated with stunning historical artworks, the glory of the Church is beautifully represented in this fun, easy to pick up and hard to put down game.

It’s this app’s simplicity and at times bursts of bright humour which make it a delight sure to entertain all.

Questions from both Catholic Bible Trivia and Catholic Trivia will form part of a ‘Battle of the Parishes’ quiz night fundraiser presented by Pub Theology Adelaide and co-hosted by Fr Matthew at Queen of Angels Church Hall, Thebarton, on Friday July 6 from 7pm.

Parish teams led by priests or Religious are invited to put their minds to the test to discover Adelaide’s brightest Catholics, while raising funds to support Vinnies’ Winter Appeal.

For more information or to book tickets, contact Ginil  Fernandez (0421 893 471) or Mary-Anne Maio (0423 152 669) or see the Pub Theology Adelaide Facebook page.

Catholic Bible Trivia can be downloaded for free from the Apple Store and Google Play.
