Vietnamese community gives thanks for service

Members of the Vietnamese Catholic Community gathered to celebrate the ministry of long-serving Mercy Sister Maria Trang last month.
Sr Trang has spent the past 30 years serving Vietnamese Catholics, the last seven years in the role of pastoral associate for the community at Pooraka. She will take a well-deserved break and sabbatical time.
At a Mass on May 15, Monsignor Minh-Tam Nguyen gave thanks for Sr Trang’s work with the community.
Both Sr Trang and Sr Nola Morrissy, Leader of the Sisters of Mercy in South Australia, were presented with commemorative plaques on the day.

In a farewell speech to the community, Sr Trang gave thanks to the Mercy leaders and the Sisters of St Joseph for their “guidance and spiritual direction given to me over many years”.
“Through their example I have learnt much about mercy, justice and peace, and a deep appreciation of truth that has been an invaluable source of inspiration for me,” she said.
Coffee and light refreshments were served after the Mass and the celebrations continued in true Vietnamese style at a nearby restaurant.
