Archbishop Patrick O’Regan - Nepal Floods Appeal

International

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Grace and peace, I hope this note finds you well. I write with deep concern for the people of Nepal following the devastating flash floods that have struck the Rasuwa District and surrounding areas, including Communities along the Bhote Koshi River.

Reports indicate significant loss of life, many people still missing, and widespread damage to homes, roads, bridges, markets, hydropower facilities and other essential infrastructure.

The scale of this disaster is still unfolding, and the needs of those affected will be both immediate and long term.

At this time, I ask the whole Archdiocesan Community to hold the people of Nepal in prayer. We pray especially for those who have died, for those who are injured or missing, for families who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods, and for all who are working to bring relief, comfort and practical assistance. May the peace of Christ be close to all who are suffering, and may our prayers be a sign of our Communion with them in this time of grief and uncertainty.

As people of faith, we are also called to respond with compassion and practical solidarity. Caritas Australia has launched the Nepal Floods Appeal and is working through the Caritas network and partners on the ground to assess needs and support Communities affected by this emergency. Those who are able to contribute financially are encouraged to donate directly through Caritas Australia.

In these days, may we continue to be mindful of our Sisters and Brothers in Nepal and entrust them to the loving care of God. Let us pray that those affected may receive the support they need, that relief efforts may reach the most vulnerable, and that the International Community may respond with generosity, compassion and hope.

In Domino,

Patrick O’Regan
Archbishop of Adelaide
