Father Michael Musyoka Kyumu will take over as parish priest of Brighton and Hallett Cove in September, following the retirement of Monsignor Ian Dempsey.
Announcing his appointment last month, Vicar General Fr Philip Marshall said Fr Musyoka, who is currently parish priest of Blackwood, would take up his new position on September 23.
After concluding his role as parish priest, Mgr Dempsey will provide ‘senior active ministry’ in the Archdiocese.
Fr Marshall said Archbishop Wilson had also appointed Fr Tony Telford-Sharp as parish priest of Blackwood, commencing September 23.
Fr Marshall acknowledged Mgr Dempsey’s long history of service in the Archdiocese beginning in January 1970 and including ministry as parish priest at Edwardstown, Brighton and Hallett Cove, a long period of chaplaincy with the Military Ordinariate through the Royal Australian Navy, his achievement of an Order of Australia in 1992 and many years of service on the Council of Priests, as a Consultor and as Vicar General.
“The Diocese is deeply indebted to Mgr Dempsey for his ministry to this point and wishes him every blessing in his ministry in the years to come,” he said.
