A cut above the grade

St Joseph’s School Clare continues to punch above its weight in academic results, with students excelling in numerous tests at both a state and national level.

In 2024, middle school students competed in the ACER Advance Awards for Schools. The literacy and numeracy assessments were completed by 1000 students across Australia.
St Joseph’s students Bryce and Matilda earnt distinctions, placing them in the top 10 per cent of all students who undertook the test across Australia.
“We are really proud of these two students; they approached the test as an opportunity to challenge themselves,” said assistant principal and leader of Middle Years, Tom Gilligan.
“There was a healthy rivalry between all the students who undertook the tests, and the students wanted to do well. Matilda and Bryce have moved on to their senior secondary schooling and have hit the ground running, well prepared by Year 9 at St Joseph’s Clare.”
In addition, five students earned credits for their efforts and school principal Joe Hicks said he was extremely proud of all students who undertook the test and looks forward to seeing how they fare this year.
These results come on the back of the school’s consistently outstanding NAPLAN results, consistently delivering well above the state and national average in every test.
“One of our core values is continual improvement”, said Mr Hicks.
“Our whole staff values assessment tasks and uses a variety of data and feedback to inform our practice. We believe we can continue to gain great – and even better – results.”
2024 St Joseph’s graduate, Matthew Bennett, has just commenced his senior secondary schooling (Yr 10-12) at Rostrevor College.
Matthew said he was unsure about how he might fare in Year 10 at a big college in Adelaide.
“I was reluctant to take on the challenge of the higher levels of Maths. I am so very appreciative that my Year 9 teacher, Ms Crawford, encouraged me to do it. I have found that I am well prepared for Year 10 and am feeling on top of the expectations and prior knowledge required for the subject.”
