Cool upgrade

As summer rapidly approaches, worshippers in St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral will be pleased to know that new ceiling fans have been installed.
The Cathedral was closed for three days recently while 10 fans – five on each side – replaced the 30-year-old fans, one of which had stopped working. The new fans hang 750cm lower than the old ones and are 80cms larger in diameter.
Cathedral parish administrator Father Anthoni Adimai said the fans were much more effective and the extra air flow generated by them was very noticeable.
In other upgrade works, the 10 lights in the centre row of the building were replaced with LEDs which give out more light, last longer and generate less heat whilst using less power.
Lighting around the Sacred Heart picture, the St Mary MacKillop portrait and above the choir has also been improved. The parquetry floor at the front of the Cathedral has had some minor repairs and been sanded back and re-surfaced.
Daily Mass was held in the Cathedral Hall while the work was being undertaken.
