On September 25, the Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide’s Council for Integral Ecology present a “thrilling” hour-long experience at the University of South Australia’s Mawson Lakes Campus.

The Council’s chair, Sanjay Mohanaraj, said the interactive and immersive experience will explore our universe, galaxy and solar system.

“We first conducted the Planetarium event to celebrate the Season of Creation in 2024 and brought it back this year due to the success of the event,” Sanjay said.

“It was an opportunity to celebrate something a little different for the Season of Creation, rather than just celebrating events traditionally outdoors and in nature. It was a way to comprehend the beauty and power of creation in all forms, this being up in the sky and beyond.”

The experience will involve a night sky presentation conducted over a period of time focused on a particular South Australian location. This will be followed by a full-dome movie.

The event is capped at 45 people and registrations close on 18 September.

In 2024, wild weather was experienced on various planets within the solar system. It was a treat for attendees to behold.

“The night sky presentation involved a visual journey through space, with stars and constellations coming alive,” Sanjay said.

“Logistically, attendees sat together in a circular-style room on recliners, where the simulation of the night sky was projected onto a domed ceiling. The full presentation was narrated by a highly experienced astronomer.”

Sanjay said the experience was magical and unique.

“I had never visited the planetarium prior and I left wanting to come back and experience it all over again,” he said. “The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing how informative and educational the event was. Many remarked how the experience opened their minds to the expansiveness of our universe, its unlimited beauty and sheer magnitude, but also the role we play on our planet and our significance as a species within our universe.”

The Adelaide Planetarium Season of Creation event will be held on 25 September at 7pm. Register by 18 September at: trybooking.com/DNKQW
