Gardening with heart
Schools
Inspired by Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home, Immaculate Heart of Mary School students are planting ‘Seeds of Hope’ as they focus on ecological conversion and sustainability.
The Brompton school’s Green Hearts gardening program is a positive expression of how the talents of families, students and staff unite to live out the charism of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) by striving to be God’s heart here on earth, according to Jhovana Fenu, assistant principal –- Religious Identity and Mission/Learning Diversity.
Two parent volunteers, Miriam, who has a certificate in Horticulture, and Rhiannon, who is a qualified chef, visit the school every Tuesday at lunchtime to educate students about sustainably producing food and how to use it, as well as sharing their produce with others.
Catholic School Parents South Australia has provided a $1000 grant towards the Green Hearts program.
“We are truly grateful for the talents of our community who help our students see themselves as thriving people, capable learners and leaders for the world God desires,” Jhovana said.
