South Australia is set to shimmer with a kaleidoscope of colour this month as the annual SALA (South Australian Living Artists) festival hits galleries and venues including cafes, restaurants, schools and libraries across the state.
Among them, is an exhibition by All Saints Catholic Primary School Year 6 students which looks at students exploring SA’s coast, the condition of our ocean and the challenges facing marine life.

In a touching visual response, they used sun prints to create artwork that encourages others to care for and protect the ocean and its living creatures. The resulting exhibition called ‘Echoes of the Ocean’ is on show at Seaford Library throughout August.
Meanwhile, at Nazareth Catholic College, students of all ages have been hard at work creating a varied display of art for an evening celebrating the school’s emerging artists.
The exhibition, called ‘Full Spectrum’ will be on show at Nazareth’s Kidman Park campus against a backdrop of live music performed by students. During the event on the evening of Tuesday 18 August (5pm-7pm), visitors will wander through the creations made by Reception to Year 12 students.
A multi-media exhibition by Compass Catholic Community Artists is also worth a gander. ‘For Arts Sake!’ features work by students aged 17 to 24 who explore identity, lived experience, and community through painting, drawing, photography, and mixed media.
The event, held at Compass Catholic Community in Davoren Park on Tuesday 4 August from noon to 2pm, is a chance to view art by emerging creatives who use art as a tool for storytelling, healing, and connection.
In Colonel Light Gardens, St Therese School students are excited to share their exhibition ‘Hope In Every Colour’. The collection of work explores human resilience, optimism, peace and unity. Expect lots of emotions, memories and hope expressed through colour. Their exhibition will be open to the public from Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 August at 8.30am.
