Small sacrifice, big impact
Schools
Year 6 students at St Thomas School, Goodwood, swapped their beds for cardboard boxes and slept in their classroom last month to raise more than $4000 for Vinnies.
During the sleepout on August 10 they also ate dinner outside to experience the cold that faces those experiencing homelessness in the winter months.
A guest speaker from the St Vincent de Paul Society spoke about the work of organisation and thanked the students for supporting those in need. In just one week the group raised $4403.
Continuing their focus on social justice issues, the following morning the sleep-deprived students and staff walked to The Orphanage and completed the Walk a Mile in My Boots for the Hutt St Centre.
