Schools

With families from over 20 different cultural backgrounds and many different religions represented in the school community, there is no wonder that Harmony Day is such a big celebration at St Bernadette’s School in St Mary’s.

Principal Ray Higgins said cultural diversity at the school was “warmly embraced and celebrated” and through Harmony Day students were able to “acknowledge their differences and demonstrate the inclusivity that is so evident every day”.

“This year we were blessed to have beautiful weather for the day and many students from Reception to Year 6 proudly wore the national dress of their homeland and took part in a parade,” he said.

“Families were eager to share their culture with others and some wonderful musical performances added to the atmosphere on the day.”

Special guests at the event included CESA deputy director, John Mula; school performance leader, Dave Edwards; EALD education advisor, Chris Payne; and Sacred Heart College deputy principal, Daniel Head.
