Running with purpose

Fr Charles Lukati has his running shoes on and is back in training for a half marathon as a way of supporting the work of Caritas Australia.
Coming from a nation well known for its long distance runners, Kenyan-born Fr Charles is passionate about running and in 2017 completed the Bay to City Fun Run to raise funds for the Project Compassion appeal.
This year he is upping the kilometres and training for a half marathon (21.1km) being held in Salisbury on Sunday May 15.
He is using his participation in the event to raise awareness – and much-needed funds – for Caritas Australia and its work with vulnerable and remote communities, particularly its efforts on the ground in war-torn Ukraine.
A passionate advocate of the benefits of running, Fr Charles said that when the training gets hard he sometimes calls for divine intervention by praying the rosary to take his mind off the pain.
