Fr Vim died suddenly at Murray Bridge on October 26 at the age of 53.

He came to Australia in December 2018 from southern India and was assistant priest at Salisbury before his most recent appointment.

More than 200 people attended a memorial Mass for Fr Vim, celebrated by Archbishop Patrick O’Regan, in St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral on October 28.

The livestream of the Mass, which enabled Fr Vim’s family and friends in India to participate, was viewed by more than 3000 people.

Archbishop O’Regan offered his condolences and prayers to Fr Vim’s cousin, Fr Selvaraj Leenaiah, parish priest of Kilburn/Clearview, his family in India, and the Diocese of Kottar including Bishop Nazarene Soosai.

“I am also deeply conscious of being close in prayer and solidarity to the three parishes in which Fr Vim was pastor as they come to terms with this loss,” he said.

In a letter to clergy and Religious, Archbishop O’Regan said the news about Fr Vim “leaves us with many questions and few answers”.

“As hard as it is to make sense of what happened…the lens through which we look upon life is, by the grace of God, the lens of faith,” he wrote.

“A lens which is able to make sense of the various seeming contradictions, paradoxes, and inconsistencies of life and while not being able to always resolve them to our immediate satisfaction, give us a way of living with them in that creative tension that is a faith-lived life.”

Funeral arrangements were still being finalised at the time of print.
