Generous support for Caritas

Catholics in the Adelaide Archdiocese raised more than $600,000 for the 2024 Project Compassion Lenten appeal, taking the total funds raised across Australia to $9.77m.
Caritas Diocesan director Tracey Tessitore said the local contribution was an outstanding effort considering the high cost of living pressure on families.
“It shows the generosity and compassion of our people and their Catholic values of solidarity and preferential option for the poor,” she said.
“Our parishes responded in an amazing way as they always do. We thank the Caritas ambassadors, clergy and parish teams who promote with sincere hearts the good works of Caritas during the Project Compassion period – and of course the parish community which responds to the call.”

Tracey noted the support of Catholic schools including St Francis de Sales College at Mount Barker which raised an extraordinary amount and were the top fundraising school in Australia this year.
“We are so grateful to all schools, their APRIMS and the generosity of families for this wonderful display of compassion towards those in need,” she said.
During Project Compassion there was also wide-spread flooding and devastation in Kenya.
“Our Archbishop wanted very much to act in solidarity and pray for our Kenyan brothers and sisters who have generously provided us with such dedicated and faith-filled clergy in our time of need,” Tracey said.
“Caritas Australia provided the link to their African Hunger Crisis appeal, working hand in hand with their local partners to relieve these devastated communities when the crisis hit. Caritas Australia and their partners are present long after immediate needs are met, supporting communities to respond, recover and rebuild.
“The Adelaide Archdiocese again responded generously, donating $27,702 to this appeal.”
