Three communities will have new parish priests following the announcement of a number of clergy appointments by Archbishop Patrick O’Regan last month.

Following the semi-retirement of Fr Michael Brennan, Fr John Shanahan has been appointed parish priest of Emmaus parish (Goodwood, Colonel Light Gardens Kingswood).

Fr Joseph Raja, assistant priest at the Cathedral parish, has been appointed parish priest of St Ann’s.

Fr Paul Mwaura, currently assisting in the Yorke Peninsula parish, is the new parish priest of Aberfoyle Park following the request by the Society of the Missionaries of St Francis Xavier in Goa Province, for Fr Santiago Fernandes to return to India to assist in the mission there.

Fr Shanahan has been parish priest of St Ann’s for 12 years after two years at St Mary’s which was amalgamated with Seacombe Gardens to form St Ann’s. Fr Brennan was appointed parish priest of Kingswood in 2007.

Fr Sam Arockiasamy will move from the parishes of Mt Gambier and Millicent where he was assistant priest to the same role at the Cathedral parish, Adelaide.

Following the recent retirement of Fr Peter Sheedy, Fr Dominick Okwadha, currently assistant priest of Mt Gambier and Millicent, has been appointed assistant priest of Brighton and Hallett Cove.

With Fr Michael Odiwa returning to Kenya to be Bishop of Homa Bay, Archbishop O’Regan has appointed Fr Pat Lopresti as assistant priest to Hectorville parish.

Anthony Beltrame and Olek Stirrat, who were recently ordained as deacons have been appointed to parishes as they complete their final journey to the priesthood. Anthony will assist at the Cathedral parish and Olek at Mt Gambier and Millicent.

All appointments took effect on January 29.
