Support for seminarians
News
Four Adelaide parishes providing financial support to East Timorese seminarians have welcomed the news that one of the seminarians they have been sponsoring was ordained a priest earlier this month.
Brighton, Glenelg, Hallett Cove and St Ann’s parishioners are currently supporting 13 students in the major seminary, 13 in the minor seminary and 13 in the Propaedeutic (preliminary) seminary.
Prior to his ordination on September 4, Deacon Filipe Moniz wrote to local parishioners to express his gratitude.
“From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank all of you in Adelaide, Australia, who had already helped us with our school fees for many years of time in our learning in the seminary,” he wrote.

“Now, there are no other words I wanted to say with you, but I just wanted to thank you, thank you and thank you for your help…
“I also thank you for your mercy, love and charity. You are always in my prayer and in my daily Eucharist. Let us pray to each other that God is always with us.
“God’s intention has always been to bring humanity together into one people; with the new covenant, which Christ makes in his blood, the new People of God is born.”
The four Adelaide parishes held a special collection for the seminarians in late August.
