Young pilgrims ready to share ideas

News

More than 110 Adelaide pilgrims travelled to Melbourne late last year for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival – a national gathering of about 6000 young Catholics.

For many it was their first time experiencing an event of this magnitude.

Catholic Office for Youth and Young Adults coordinator Julian Nguyen said across the three days there was excitement, a renewed sense of faith and deep reflection of the different experiences provided.

“Hope was truly renewed in our hearts in knowing that all these young people would also be coming home ready with new ideas and ways to share their faith with others,” he said.

A highlight was a surprise video message from Pope Leo XIV in which he reminded the young people that each one of them had been created with a unique personality, possessing different strengths, weaknesses, talents and skills, and that they had a specific life journey to live out these qualities with joy.

“I encourage you to build networks and friendships with one another and work together to build up the Kingdom of God in your local areas,” Pope Leo told the young people. This month the Adelaide pilgrims will have an opportunity reconnect and discuss how they can use their experience at the festival to inspire their communities.
