October continues to be an important month for the Catholic Women’s League. The CWLSA has a State Conference every two years, the next of which will be held at St John the Baptist Parish Hall on Anzac Highway at Plympton on 31 October.
The doors are wide open to all interested parishioners, friends, and interstate CWL members.
“We welcome all women of our communities to join us exploring this theme and reflecting with like-minded women sharing their works and stories in achieving amazing things,” said committee member Janet Videon.
The theme is ‘Walking together we can do amazing things’ and guest speakers include Grace Juanta (director of Birthline Pregnancy Support Inc), Dr Sarah Moller (head of college and academic director, Aquinas College), Catherine Edwards, co-regional director, Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans – ACRATH), Angela Hart (ACRATH member), and Annie Harvey (human capability speaker, The FUN Formula Yoga).

“It promises to be a most interesting and enjoyable day with plenty of time to socialise and interact with other CWL members,” said state president Sue Williams.
“The Conference will conclude with Mass celebrated at 3pm by our CWL Chaplain Fr Brian.”
The conference will be fully catered and costs will be kept to a minimum to encourage everyone to attend.
“There will also be a pre-conference dinner on the Friday evening at The Junction, 470 Anzac Highway.”
Members who don’t feel confident using Humantix and doing their own on-line booking may do a group booking with their branch, but each individual’s details will be required.
There will be a WUCWO (World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations) collection taken up at Mass and there will be a small raffle on offer during the day.
The CWLSA has also put a call out for anyone with strong, young family members who are available to help set up tables after 6pm on the Friday evening. “We would love to hear from you,” Sue said.
The CWLSA has come a long way over the decades.

On October 25 1914, more than 150 women gathered in St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral Hall in Wakefield Street, Adelaide, with the permission and patronage of Archbishop Spence, for the inaugural meeting of the Catholic Women’s League. Within 18 months the CWL had more than 1000 members.
“Because of the work of the early pioneering members, CWL is now in the fortunate position of having adequate funds to donate to causes that align with its core values, particularly helping women and children,” Sue said.
The CWLSA State Conference will be held on 31 October at Saint John the Baptist Hall,
342 Anzac Highway, Plympton, 9am-3.30pm.
Tickets are $30 and include morning tea and lunch.
