Gary Felton easily won the Dean Travers Cup for the best score at the 50th and final Clergy-Laity golf day and dinner, in March. His winning score of 44 Stableford points was seven more than the next best.
Gary’s very considerable contribution boosted the CDF Team to a total of 109 points to win the Reverend Robert J Rice Team Trophy for the third time in its four years.
Sunny conditions and a light breeze provided ideal weather for the 12.30pm shotgun start at the West Beach Patawalonga course which proved challenging for the 65 players who included seven clergy.
Nine parishes had the required minimum of three players to compete for the John Mahoney Parish Trophy which was won by Ottoway with 107 points ahead of Clearview/Kilburn (98) and last year’s winners, Gawler (96).
The convenor, Archbishop Patrick O’Regan, led the dinner gathering of 69 guests and presented the four trophies.
To celebrate the final golf day, a large Black Forest cake was cut by David Wood (treasurer), Denis and Margaret and Archbishop Patrick.
The Committee announced that the final bank balance of around $3500 will be donated to Catholic Charities.
