Australian composers at the table

Australian composers Michael Harvey and Gina Ogilvie have received a rare honour, with their contemporary hymn Here at the Table selected for performance at St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City and Santa Sabina Basilica in Rome this month.
Published by Willow Publishing, the hymn will be performed by the musical ensembles of Santa Sabina College Strathfield NSW under the direction of conductor James Pensini, head of Music Performance at Santa Sabina College.
The journey began with a St Dominic’s Day celebration Mass in Strathfield on August 1, featuring the Santa Sabina Symphony Orchestra and College Choir. The performances will then culminate in Italy with presentations in Rome on September 28 and 30, when the Santa Sabina College String Quartet and a specially formed 30-voice choir will present the Australian composers’ work.
Director of Willow Publishing Monica O’Brien said that this was a special moment for Australian Catholic liturgical musicians.
“This year, with the release of our Pilgrims of Hope collection (which includes Here at the Table) Willow Publishing has given Australian composers a place at this very important table,” she said.
Written for the preparation of the gifts, Here at the Table invites the congregation into deeper reflection during the Eucharist.
