Public demonstration of devotion to Our Lady

About 40 men, spanning a wide range of ages, gathered at Mary MacKillop Plaza adjacent St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral on the first Saturday in August for a very public birthday celebration.

The get-together, on a cold wintry day, was to mark the second anniversary of the Adelaide Men’s Rosary Crusade with special guest speaker Fr Mannes Tellis OP, parish priest at North Adelaide/Prospect, talking about ‘The importance of the rosary in our lives’.
The Adelaide Men’s Rosary Crusade was first held in August 2023 on the lawns of the Cathedral before moving to Mary MacKillop Plaza to offer a more visible and public witness to the faith. Marco Barsotti is one of its founders.

“We meet in rain, hail or shine. We just want to see it grow and get it out to more men,” Marco said.
“It’s for men to gather, pray, and be public witnesses to the faith. Our aim is not only to see the men’s rosary grow in numbers but, more importantly, for the men to deepen in fervour, commitment and faith, while continuing to build fraternity.”
A celebratory lunch for about 30 people was held afterwards at the Crown and Sceptre pub.
The global men’s rosary crusade is a contemporary Catholic lay movement that calls men across the world to publicly gather and pray the rosary together for the conversion of their nations, the sanctification of families and the defence of Our Lady of the Catholic faith.
The movement began in Poland around 2018 with public rosary processions specifically calling men to pray boldly and visibly in city squares.
The Adelaide group, which began with six members, gathers after 11.30am Mass on the first Saturday of each month for 45 minutes.
