The new building was completed in late 2023 and officially opened and blessed by Archbishop Patrick O’Regan on March 26.

Principal Luke Buchanan described the opening ceremony as an opportunity to showcase “our beautiful learning spaces, vibrant classrooms and, most importantly, the warmth and kindness of our students”.

“The heartfelt and positive feedback we received was truly uplifting,” he said.

Catholic Education SA director Neil McGoran said the new building represented more than just bricks and mortar.

“It is a symbol of hope, opportunity and the future,” he said.

“It will be a place where faith and knowledge intersect, where friendships are formed and where the leaders of tomorrow are shaped.”

St Columba’s was founded in 1957 by the Sisters of St Joseph. In 2001 the last of the Sisters left the southern Yorke Peninsula and entrusted the school to lay principals.

“This new facility is a testament to that enduring legacy and the dedication of those who have worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality,” Dr McGoran said.

After an outdoor liturgy, Archbishop O’Regan and parish priest Fr John Mbaraka blessed the learning spaces.
