The 14 Catholic schools in the Port Pirie Diocese, including St Joseph’s, have taken inspiration from the 2025 Jubilee Year theme ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ by following the theme ‘Seeds of Hope’ this year.
Staff, students, Sisters of St Joseph and Catholic Education SA were consulted on a name for the new building.
In her speech at the opening, principal Catherine Gurr described the children who work in the new space as “our hope for the future”, and she prayed “that the staff and students who work within the Hope Centre plant seeds of hope that will transform the world around us.”
Completed late last year, the Hope Centre contains classrooms for Year 5 and 6 students, breakout learning spaces called ‘Think Tanks’, staff offices, a large gathering space, primary music classroom and two studios, and a canteen to service the whole school.
The Hope Centre was officially blessed and opened by Bishop Karol Kulczycki SDS, Bishop of the Diocese of Port Pire, along with Ms Nichii Mardon, director of Catholic Education Port Pirie.
