The magic of Book Week
Schools
Xavier College was one of many schools around the nation to embrace the joy of reading during Book Week held from August 17-23.
This year’s theme, ‘Reading is Magic’, set the tone for a week of activities. Students delved into spellbinding books, participated in a variety of magical experiences, took part in reading sessions and created magic-related art.
The pinnacle of the celebration for the Evanston and Two Wells campuses was the Book Week Parade, a vibrant display of student creativity.
Many students and staff dressed in costumes to reflect their favourite literary characters, among them wizards, witches, superheroes and mythical beings. The parade reflected the depth of imagination and enthusiasm fostered by this year’s theme.
“I got to dress up as Harry Potter because I like Harry Potter and I watch Harry Potter,” said Reception student Nixon.”
Fellow Reception student Connor is also a fan of the character conjured up by British author JK Rowling.
“I love to dress up as Harry, he is a really cool character,” Connor said.
“We got to watch the really cool parade.”
