SACCS on the road
Local
The South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools (SACCS) took to the road for the first time in its almost 60-year history when it held its July meeting in Port Pirie.
All 14 commissioners attended, including Archbishop Patrick O’Regan and Bishop Karol Kulczycki SDS.
SACCS chair John Neate said holding the meeting in Port Pirie was a strong sign that the
Commission covers both dioceses, with 86 schools in Adelaide and 14 in Port Pirie Diocese.
“Our regional schools are precious to SACCS,” Mr Neate said.
“It was a chance for Commissioners to hear directly of some of the unique nature and challenges of the schools in the Pirie Diocese.”
The visit began with Mass celebrated by the bishops in St Mark’s Cathedral. In his homily Bishop Karol reminded commissioners of what it means to lead in the name of the Gospel and the Church.
The commissioners visited two schools – St Mark’s in Port Pirie and St Mary MacKillop School in Wallaroo.
