Caring for our Common Home
Schools
Celebrating the world we live in was the theme for an Earth Evening held at St Joseph’s School, Kingswood, last month.
Staff, students and families gathered for the event, which kicked off with an awareness raising session that dealt with the horrific effects of plastic waste and the need to act now.
The school also took the opportunity to share its plan to reduce waste by launching its package-free lunchbox campaign. Through this project the school will increase efforts towards better waste separation and management.
A number of stalls on the evening highlighted products and initiatives that promote sustainability including the popular beeswax eco-wraps offered by the Year 3/4 cohort and the eco-cleaner produced by the Year 6 classes.
Deputy principal Jamie Deverson said the evening was a great success, with the community showing its commitment to move forward “with God’s creation at the forefront of our actions”.
“The motivation behind this event was to ‘capture hearts’; to get the community on board with our mission through genuine love and care for our Common Home,” he added.
