Mercy leadership team elected

Sister Duyen Nguyen rsm from Adelaide has been elected to the new leadership team of the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Professed in 2009, Sr Duyen has undertaken several ministries in education and currently works with the Mission team at Mercedes College.

Born in a small village in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, Sr Duyen came to Australia with members of her family in 1991. She joined the Sisters of Mercy in 1999 and completed teacher training with the ACU in Ballarat and a Bachelor of Theology at Flinders University.

Previously, Sr Duyen was a teacher at Caritas College, where she also coordinated the sacramental program for children and families of the school and parish community in Port Augusta.

The new leadership team was elected at the Institute’s third chapter held at Mary MacKillop Place in North Sydney in mid-September. The team will take over on November 11 and guide the Institute for the next four years.

Members of the team are Institute leader, Sr Karon Donnellon; Institute vicar Sr Elizabeth Moloney; and Institute councillors Sr Margaret Madden, Sr Theresia Tina and Sr Duyen.
