Fr Peter Sheedy retires

Father Peter Sheedy, assistant priest at Brighton and Hallett Cove, will retire after turning 75 on November 1.
One of seven children, Fr Peter was educated by the Dominican Sisters at Sempahore and by the Marist Brothers at Alberton before completing his secondary education in the minor seminary at Rostrevor and commencing his studies for the priesthood.
He was ordained in 1970 by Archbishop Matthew Beovich. Fr Peter spent time in the parishes of Goodwood, Colonel Light Gardens and Thebarton then became secretary to Archbishop James Gleeson in 1980, a position he held for six years.

In 1986 he was appointed as parish priest of Kapunda where he remained for 10 years, followed by four years at Mallee/Border, six years at Tailem Bend and seven years at Victor Harbor.
In 2013 he took up residence as assistant priest of Brighton/Hallett Cove and moved into the presbytery with his menagerie of dogs, cats and birds.
Brighton parish held a farewell for Fr Peter on October 20 and Hallett Cove is holding a celebration on November 3.
Fr Peter will continue to live at Hallett Cove and will be available for weekend Masses.
