The festival, presented by the History Trust of South Australia, runs from May 1 to 31 and last year’s event featured 523 events and attracted almost 190,000 people.

Community events, talks, tours, workshops, and exhibitions take place in an exciting array of urban and rural locations including churches, museums, heritage buildings, streets, boats, buses, trains, on beaches and even in nature.

Past highlights included ‘Behind the Shelves of the State Library of South Australia’, guided tours of the Mary MacKillop Museum, and ‘Paving the Way: Migration Museum Stories’.

The 2024 History Festival will feature portrait photographs of 100 South Australians. People were asked to share a story of local legends, quiet heroes, neighbourhood stars and community champions via festival.history.sa.gov.au.

The deadline to register an event is February 11 (registrations after this date may be shown online). The only limit is your imagination. Visit festival.history.sa.gov.au to register.
