Holy Week a time to accompany Jesus
Events
As Holy Week began on Palm Sunday, Pope Francis invited everyone to “accompany the Lord Jesus with faith and love” at the Palm Sunday celebration in Saint Peter's Square, Rome.
A day after leaving hospital where he was treated for a chest infection, Pope Francis thanked people for their prayers and asked everyone to unite in praying for peace, remembering Ukraine in particular.
He urged the faithful to learn from ‘our Mother, the Virgin Mary” who followed her son Jesus with the closeness of her heart, one soul with Him.
“May Our Lady help us stay close to Jesus, present in the people who suffer, are cast out, abandoned…I wish everyone a good journey toward Easter,” he said.
In Adelaide, an ecumenical Palm Sunday procession took place from Mary MacKillop Plaza to St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral where Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Patrick O’Regan.
This was followed on Monday night by the Chrism Mass where members of parishes and communities collected the holy oils after they were blessed and consecrated. The oils will be used throughout the year for the sacraments.
