A new statue of Saint Mother Teresa has been installed in the gardens of Mater Christi Church, Seaton, after the local Albanian Catholic community raised funds for the project.
Created by Pjerin Kolnikaj in Albania, Mother Teresa’s country of origin, the life-size statue of the missionary nun was unveiled and blessed by Vicar General Fr Dean Marin on April 18.
About 300 people, including the Albanian Ambassador to Australia Adrian Mara, participated in the Mass and procession prior to the blessing.
The Albanian community celebrates Mass at Mater Christi every second Sunday. Chaplain Fr Tomas Ruiz CS, who is also parish priest at Seaton, and assistant parish priest Fr Luigi Sabbadin CS, concelebrated the Mass with Fr Marin.
Fr Tomas said the bronze statue of Mother Teresa with her outstretched arms awaiting to embrace everyone with her love exuded “kindness, love and compassion”.
