Now in its fifth year, the awards recognise students and old scholars from colleges and schools in the Adelaide Archdiocese who have made the ‘biggest impact’ as radio broadcasters on the 1079 Life radio show.

Held at Sacred Heart College’s DeBourg Auditorium on March 8, the awards featured nominations from eight schools, with Tom Basso from Rostrevor College named Broadcaster of the Year.

“The quality of the student’s work on the air has never been better,” said James Meston, producer of Arch D Radio.

“It’s also very exciting looking ahead this year, as the program is expanding to start producing a new podcast called ‘School Life’.”

Mr Meston said the podcast, which will launch on iTunes and Spotify in April, will feature more indepth stories looking at the students, the schools and their communities – and what makes them unique and special.

Catholic Education SA director, Neil McGoran, who attended the awards ceremony, paid tribute to the participating schools and also thanked the parents of the students who were involved in Arch D Radio.

“As a parent you want nothing more than for your child to develop the confidence to just be that wonderful person that you know is inside of them. I think that [Arch D Radio] is one very special way that this happens,” Dr McGoran said.

The Arch D Radio show is produced by the Catholic Office for Youth & Young Adults and airs on 1079 Life FM every Wednesday at 9pm and Saturday at 10pm. The show is also available as a podcast through iTunes & Spotify.
