Commitment statement launched

The Adelaide Archdiocese Child Protection Unit has developed a new statement of commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
Administrator Delegate Father Philip Marshall said this important document “reaffirms our dedication to valuing and protecting the children in our community”.
The statement replaces the charter established by the former South Australian Catholic Child Protection Council.
It was launched in parishes on the weekend of the Third Sunday of Advent, which was chosen by Apostolic Administrator Bishop Greg O’Kelly SJ because of the relevance of the readings.
“The readings invite us to rejoice with all your heart, to experience joy,” he said.
“To be a herald of hope and joy’ we the Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide can confirm our commitment to safeguarding our children and young people.”
The statement is the first of several new policies and procedures to be reviewed by the Child Protection Unit. The documents will be circulated throughout the diocese in 2019.
