SA digs deep for Project Compassion

South Australians are being thanked for their generous support of this year’s Project Compassion Lenten campaign which has raised $10.8 million nationally.
Caritas Australia’s Adelaide diocesan director Angela Hart said in the current economic climate it was wonderful that the community of the Adelaide Archdiocese had raised $615,000 for the appeal.
“Each year we are amazed by the commitment of parishes and schools to support Project Compassion, which in turn helps millions of people to change their lives,” Ms Hart said.
This year’s theme ‘For a Just Future’ drew attention to empowering young people throughout the world to build a better future for themselves, their families and communities.
According to the United Nations, 250 million children worldwide live in conflict zones.
Through its work, Caritas believes the contribution of young people is integral in building a sustainable peace. Money raised through Project Compassion will enable the agency to help impoverished communities to become stronger and more resilient.
