Also known as the Enrolment of Names, the rite acknowledges that God has selected the catechumen for full initiation at the Easter Vigil.

The catechumens, officially known as ‘the elect’, will be initiated in each parish during the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday March 31.

New Catholics being fully initiated into the Catholic Church (through baptism, confirmation and communion) or received from other denominations into full communion with the Catholic Church (through confirmation) will be celebrated on Sunday April 22 at the 6pm Mass in St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral.

The catechumens were accompanied at the Rite of Election by their sponsors who processed into the church with their parish banners.

About 35 new Catholics are expected to be baptised in Adelaide this Easter.
