The churches of Clare organise the short service on a rotational basis.
The service is followed by a symbolic breakfast of barbecued fish and bread.
The host church (this year it’s the Anglican Church) is responsible for organising the worship component and the breakfast.
“The morning service aims to have the gospel reading as the sun rises,” said Clare Valley Christian Outreach Inc secretary Jan Trengove.
The ecumenical nature of the event means everyone is welcome. CVCO office bearers come from Lutheran, Anglican, Uniting, Catholic, Baptist, Futures and New Life churches.
“It’s really interesting because we have 80 to 90 people attend every year,” Jan says.
“That number hardly fluctuates, even when it’s cold and we don’t think we’ll get many people. They still come in droves. It is another instance of fabulous ecumenism in the Clare Valley.”
The Easter Sunday Sunrise Service will be held at Paulett Wines, 752 Jolly Way, Polish Hill River, 6.15am for 6.30am start. clarevalley.com.au BYO chair.
