A French religious sister chosen by Pope Francis to serve as under secretary of the Synod of Bishops will visit Adelaide in February.
Sr Nathalie Becquart, 53, is the first woman to be appointed to the high level position, and the first woman to have the right to vote in synod proceedings.
A member of the Xavière Sisters, Missionaries of Jesus Christ, Sr Nathalie has held various roles in youth ministry in France. Between 2016-2018 she was part of the youth synod preparatory team and was an observer at the Synod of Bishops on Youth, Faith, and Vocational Discernment.

More recently she has been following Vatican sabbatical programs at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, USA.
The Synod of Bishops is a four-year process of discernment on the future of the Catholic Church. It will culminate in a summit of 250 bishops from around the world, held over two sessions in October 2023 and October 2024. Archbishop Patrick O’Regan is one of two Australian bishops who will participate in the Synod.
Sr Nathalie will give a presentation on ‘Synodality as Mission’ at a dinner on February 1, 5.30pm, at the Grange Golf Club.
