Gawler Catholic parish is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year, having commenced on August 17 1849, just 13 years after the proclamation of South Australia.

About 300 faithful took the opportunity to pray in front of the relic of St John Bosco when it was on display in the Gawler parish in early September.

The Society of St Francis de Sales (Salesians), founded by St John Bosco in 1859, are planning several celebrations in 2023 to mark 100 years of service in Australia.
