Brooklyn Park/Richmond parishioners have been assured there will be no name change and no closure of churches as a result of the Salesians’ decision to leave the parish at the end of the year.

The order announced in June that it would consolidate its ministry in Adelaide in the parish of Gawler and at Xavier College.

A taskforce comprising representatives of the parish, local schools and the Archdiocese has been meeting to discuss the future of the parish.

Vicar General Father Philip Marshall, a member of the task force, said there had been a very positive response from the community at forums held after Mass over two weekends.

He said feedback from the parish and school communities would be fed into the process for appointing a replacement for Father Joseph Lee SDB. Common themes were recognition of the multicultural nature of the parish, the importance of retaining regular weekday and Sunday Mass times and maintaining the “friendly and welcoming communities”.

A farewell for the Salesians will be held later in the year.
