The re-developed Dell Building at St Francis de Sales College in Mount Barker was officially opened on Wednesday 11 March and included a blessing of the building by Archbishop Patrick O’Regan. Blair Boyer MP, Minister for Education, Training and Skills was also in attendance to celebrate the opening with staff, students and community partners.

Supported in part by the state government’s capital grant and South Australia Commission for Catholic Schools, the two-storey building will deliver modern learning spaces for secondary students alongside a dedicated performing arts precinct that brings together the college’s music, drama and dance facilities.

Designed to foster collaboration and creativity, the building features flexible classroom layouts, breakout areas and specialist performing arts spaces. Of the college’s 1,162 students, more than 900 will utilise the facility each week and are expected it as a vibrant hub of learning from Reception to Year 12.

St Francis De Sales College Principal, Andrew Baker said the Dell Building represents an exciting expansion of the college resources and learning opportunities.

“Our students now have access to purpose-built spaces that allow their creativity to flourish while supporting contemporary teaching practices grounded in our Catholic identity,” he said.
Catholic Education South Australia Executive Director, Dr Neil McGoran said the building demonstrates how innovative environments can inspire and engage students.

“It reflects our shared mission to strengthen community and provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and reach their full potential within a supportive learning environment.”

The Dell Building forms part of the College masterplan, linking seamlessly with existing facilities and enhancing its capacity to deliver high-quality arts education alongside strong academic programs, ensuring every student is supported to thrive.
