Perfect blend
Schools
As Catholic schools raised funds for the annual Project Compassion appeal during Lent, one young student from St Joseph’s School Clare blended fundraising with healthy food and fun.

Millie Duncan is in Year 8 and a ‘student parliamentary minister for health and wellbeing’.
She wanted to do something ‘extra’ to raise funds for the Caritas Australia campaign and enlisted a couple of friends to assist in holding a Smoothie Fundraiser.
After designing a promotional poster and working with staff to organise an online pre-ordering process, the group sold healthy fruit-based yoghurt smoothies to students during a Wednesday lunchtime.
In the planning process, the manager of the local Woolworths store became aware of Millie’s idea and donated all the ingredients required.
Principal Joe Hicks said the initiative was a great example of the community working together.
“What a great outcome for all involved,” he said.
“Millie and her helpers sold a total of 132 smoothies on the day, raising $660 for Project Compassion.
“It was a fantastic initiative and one that was completely driven by Millie. She demonstrated great servant leadership by seeing a need and building community to do something about it.”
