The Congregational leader of the Sisters of St Joseph, Sr Monica Cavanagh, has paid tribute to South Australian Josephite Sr Patricia Morrison (Sr Angela), who died on January 9.

Sr Patricia served in a variety of ministries in the following places: North Sydney, Kununurra (WA), Peterborough, Largs Bay, Balaklava, Kensington, Port Lincoln, Burketown, Balmain, Riverwood and Kensington Gardens/Tranmere.

“Patricia had a pioneering spirit and a deep commitment to ministry with the Aboriginal people in Kununurra,” Sr Monica wrote.

“This commitment and deep love she carried with her wherever her journey took her.

“Like Joseph, our patron, she walked humbly and quietly serving the needs of those she encountered along the way.

“She acted justly in addressing issues that affected the lives of the people among whom she lived and responded with a compassionate heart to those facing difficulty. Her life has touched and influenced many along the way.”

“We pray in gratitude for the intellect, graciousness, creativity, practical vision and hospitality that Patricia shared so generously in creating community in the many places in which she ministered and lived.

“Our condolences go out to Patricia’s family, her sisters Mary and Bernadette and her extended family members and all those who loved and cared for Patricia in so many ways, especially those who shared community with her.

“As the scripture reminds us: ‘the life and death of each of us has its influence on others.’

“We remember the deceased members of Patricia’s family, her parents Marian and Leo, her brother Anthony, all her loved family members and Josephite companions with whom she now shares eternal life.

“As Patricia is welcomed into the banquet of eternal life, we give thanks for her life among us, and the joy it has given to many.

“May the hospitable heart of God embrace her in love, ‘good and faithful one’.”
