Cathedral Chiaroscuro is described as ‘an immersive fusion of light projection and music’ that will transform the Cathedral into a ‘breathtaking canvas of colour, shadow and awe-inspiring atmosphere’.

Electric Canvas, which produces the acclaimed Christmas light show at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney, has been testing equipment and liaising with Cathedral staff, with projectors to be set up this month.

The event will consist of four 15 minute projection loops from 8.30pm-9.15pm daily (except Mondays) accompanied by a music soundtrack put together by Cathedral musicians Timothy Davey and Astrid Sengkey.

Electric Canvas managing director Peter Milne said nine projectors would be installed in the Cathedral to “acknowledge every nook and cranny” of the central nave and the sanctuary.

“What we want to create inside this beautiful Cathedral is an immersive experience so that people can wander at will and linger and see the wonderful architecture brought to life through the accuracy and colour rendition that projection affords,” he told The Southern Cross.

The Fringe has made a significant investment in the project and outgoing CEO Heather Croall said the $15 entrance fee would go a “small way” towards recouping the costs.
