International experts for Canon Law conference

The Canon Law Society of Australia and New Zealand (CLSANZ) will hold its 57th annual conference from September 2 to 5 at Rydges South Bank, Brisbane.

The event will feature a line-up of internationally acclaimed speakers, providing a comprehensive platform for discussing pivotal issues in canon law and providing lay persons and clerics the opportunity to enhance their professional development.
In addition, the conference will feature workshops applicable to the work of canonical tribunals and preliminary investigations, and other relevant topics, providing attendees with practical skills and knowledge.
CLSANZ President Fr Ken Cafe ofm, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming conference, and commented on the skills attendees will gain from the four-day event.
“The event will provide lay people and clergy with the opportunity to listen to an array of talented speakers, while enriching their understanding of canon law,” he said.
“The sessions and workshops are designed to equip attendees with the practical knowledge and skills that are essential in addressing contemporary challenges in the Catholic Church’s legal framework.”
The key presenters and highlights of the conference include:
- Dr Edward Morgan KC – An internationally recognised authority in penal canon law, Dr Morgan will deliver a keynote on justice in the penal process. His extensive experience in church tribunals and canonical advocacy will bring invaluable insights.
- Fr Giorgio Giovanelli – A moral theologian and canon law expert, Fr Giovanelli will draw on his experience as a Marriage Commissioner with the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
- Dr Rocio Figueroa – A leading voice in the aftermath of the New Zealand Royal Commission, Dr Figueroa will share her expert analysis and conclusions.
- Dr Chad Glendinning – As the Dean of the Canon Law Faculty at Saint Paul University, Ottawa, Dr Glendinning specialises in sacramental and liturgical law, and will host a session on Juridical Reflections on the Synod on Synodality.
