The Gawler R-12 Catholic college will become the home of the first Liverpool FC Academy in SA and the first school in Adelaide to offer a high-performance soccer school program delivered by the Academy.

The local community will also have opportunities through several community training sessions and holiday programs at the college.

“This is an exciting collaboration between Liverpool Football Club International Academy Australia and Xavier College,” Kevin Kalinko, director of LFC International Academy and Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) said.

“We share similar values as well as a strong desire to integrate world leading football into the college.

“In addition, we are tremendously excited to offer our programs to the broader community.

“Finally, this presents students of Xavier College pathway opportunities into tertiary education in sport, health and fitness at the Australian College of Physical Education.”

Xavier College principal Mark Flaherty said it was a privilege to be able to collaborate with the Academy because of the programs and opportunities for students and the wider community, and also because of the alignment in values of the groups involved.

Founded in 1892, Liverpool FC is one of the world’s most historic and famous football clubs, having won 19 League titles, including the Premier League, eight FA Cups, nine League Cups, six European Cups, three UEFA Cups, four European Super Cups and 16 Charity Shields.

In Australia, LFC International Academy is a partnership project with the (ACPE), Australia’s leading independent higher education provider for specialist degrees in Sport, Education, Health, Sport Business and Dance. ACPE is also home to Australia’s first Bachelor of Football (Development, Management and Performance) preparing students for careers in various sectors of the football industry.

“Both ACPE and LFC International Academy are passionate about transforming lives and communities through education and sport, in this case football, Debbie Le Roux, CEO of ACPE said.

“I have no doubt that greater opportunities will come from this strategic and values-based alliance between our organisations to deliver greater value to Xavier College students, staff and the wider community.”

The high-performance soccer program involves developing players technically, tactically, and physically but also input into social and mental development, career pathways and life skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership.

“In this mission Liverpool FC International Academy is perfectly aligned, and we are proud and excited about working with the College to create a unique environment for students at Xavier College, along with players and coaches in the local community,” said Liverpool FC International Academy Australia head of Football Operations Scott Collis.

“Liverpool Football Clubs’ vision is to be the world leader in developing young people through football.

“We want our programs to deliver not only strong football outcomes but also contribute to a young person’s journey wherever their pathway leads.”

Xavier College is a Catholic school established in 1995 at Gawler in the tradition of the Salesian Order. Xavier College currently contains three campuses, Gawler Belt (Years 7 to 12), Two Wells (Reception to Year 9) and Evanston (Reception to Year 6).
