Bequest puts shine on Streaky Bay church

After 65 years of enduring the extremes of Streaky Bay weather, St Canute’s Church, Streaky Bay, has had a makeover with a new roof being installed in September.
Parish priest Fr Steve Ardill said a new roof was needed as far back as 2006 but financial constraints delayed the project by 16 years.
The project was made possible as a result of a generous bequest by long-time and respected parishioner Ailys Milburn and by a grant from the Streaky Bay Community Hotel.
“Ailys was a very active member of the parish assisting with fundraising and hospitality,” Fr Steve said.
“Her catered breakfasts after the early morning Sunday Mass in Streaky Bay were legendary.”
The successful tender was undertaken by Ceduna builder John Duregon.
Fr Steve said parishioners were “delighted by the shining new roof” and the new carpet tiles recently laid in the Streaky Bay Church Hall.
