St Aloysius College Year 9 student Angelica Alfaro has been named the inaugural winner of the Zoe Hosking Memorial Award.
The annual award was established in 2020 in memory of Zoe Hosking, a much-loved student who died in the New Zealand White Island volcano disaster in December 2019.
Principal Paddy McEvoy said Zoe’s zest for life saw her participating avidly in every aspect of the school curriculum and beyond throughout her 10 years at St Aloysius. In particular, she loved music and drama.
“She had a beautiful voice and was the driving force behind the establishment of a Year 9 Rock Band,” Ms McEvoy said.

“Inspired and supported by her Mum, Lisa, she had a strong sense of giving back to the community. Tributes for Zoe after her death came from near and far, reflecting the hospitality she showed to all those she met.”
With the generous support of Rotary Adelaide and Rotary District 9500 (now 9510), the annual award was established to recognise and reward a student who embodies Zoe’s sense of passion and purpose. The award recipient will be a Year 9 student who is actively involved in music and drama and uses her talents to serve the community, both at SAC and beyond.
As the 2020 recipient, Angelica received $250 to further pursue her passion for the performing arts and community service.
