Father Philip Marshall, Father Peter Sheedy, Monsignor Rob Egar and Sisters of Mercy joined local parish priest Father Vinh-Quang Tran in celebrating the 100 year milestone of the church.

Honorary French Consul Sue Crafter, Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie, Mayor of Victor Harbor Moira Jenkins along with other invited guests attended the special Mass and then joined parishioners for a delicious lunch.

During the service, Governor Van Le congratulated parishioners on the milestone and history of the church and endorsed Fr Vinh’s comments on the significance and beauty of the stained glass windows that were made by locals Ray Klecko and Mark Leaney.

The Governor also talked about similarities in his and Father Vinh’s lives as both were ‘boat people’ from Vietnam. He talked about his arrival in Australia and how welcome he felt.

“We both are now serving our people in different ways,” he said.

During the luncheon, Mayor Jenkins spoke on the diversity of the St Joan of Arc parish community.

“This caring community reaches out in so many ways to make Victor Harbor even better than it already is. The vision of strong faith keeps you going even in tough times,” she said.
