Fr Gabriel Micalleff OFM, chaplain to the Maltese community in Adelaide, will retire and return to Malta this month.
Apostolic Administrator Bishop Greg O’Kelly SJ said Fr Gabriel’s ministry had been so much appreciated, through his service of the Maltese community and the wider Catholic community, as well as his leadership of Christ the King parish at Lockleys during a ministry of 23 years.
The farewell mass for Fr Gabriel on September 15 was concelebrated by five priests, including the Administrator Delegate Father Philip Marshall, in the packed Lockleys church.
Messages of thanks from Church and community leaders and parishioners were compiled in a tribute book to show the Maltese community’s appreciation to Fr Gabriel.
The Lockleys parish has a long association with the Maltese Franciscans who arrived in Adelaide in 1948.
