Henley Beach’s aggregate of 98 Stableford points from its best three (Denis Toohey 34, John McCarthy 33 and David Wood 31) was just ahead of Payneham (96) and Blackwood (95).
Early morning showers cleared just in time for the annual event which attracted 72 players – including seven clergy – and was held at the West Lakes Golf Club on March 25.
Competition was keen for the Dean Travers Cup (best Stableford score), with Bob Winter claiming honours on 38 points from Ian Wilson, Russell Boyd and Ken Henry, each with 36.
Fr Ben Mkuchu justified the long drive from Booleroo Centre to win the Archbishop Leonard Faulkner Trophy for clergy, with 33 points.
Laity club handicap winners were – A: Ian Wilson 36; B: Cyril Brown (Blackwood) 35; C: Rod Hern (Dernancourt) 35; Women: Margo Canino (Brooklyn Park/Richmond) 31.
Social players were subject to the Callaway Handicap System with Adam van Dommele (30) beating Damien Hern on a countback.
